Nithyalakshmi created a name for herself as the first girl student from a Tamil school to represent the Malaysia at the World Youth Chess championships. She is a gold medallist in the Asian Games for Chess under 14 and Top 8 in the National Level Woman category in Malaysia.
Nitya started playing chess in an early age. Apart from being the top in chess she also tops her class. She has a brother who often competes with her. Their parents have been a tremendous support for their child’s passion in this sport.
They started off playing in Primary school competitions and now they have grown to compete in World level competitions.
Initially when they beat their father in the game it created a sense of realization for him that his children were extremely talented in chess. He took this forward to their school insisting them to send his children for chess competitions.
The father’s only hurdle is that they don’t have sponsors. Nitya said she got more interest to this game when she started winning a lot. Her aim is to win Grand Masters title and Woman Grand Masters title.
